Boarding Schools
Boarding Schools
Michigan’s boarding schools must be licensed by the Michigan Department of Education. Section 3 of the Revised School Code - MCL 380.3(4) defines a boarding school as “a place accepting for board, care, and instruction of 5 or more children under 16 years of age.” Click on link to view The Michigan Administrative Code Rules governing Boarding School Licenses. In addition to compliance with the rules for Boarding School Licenses, boarding schools must comply with the requirements of the Revised School Code that pertain to nonpublic schools. Questions regarding boarding school matters may be referred to Kevin Walters of the Office of Financial Management at waltersk5@michigan.gov or 517-335-0543.
