On the morning of April 27, 2012, police were dispatched to the victim's residence in the 2900 block of Waalkes Street after a 911 call from a family member. Investigators quickly determined that 72-year-old Alvaro "Al" Loera had been fatally assaulted inside his home.
Loera was a prominent community member, an Army veteran, and owner of Muskegon's Flamingo II Restaurant.
