Hazardous waste operating licenses
Businesses that treat, store, or dispose of hazardous waste must adhere to specific requirements to ensure protection of human health and the environment. These requirements include obtaining a license under Michigan’s hazardous waste laws. The Materials Management Division (MMD) issues those licenses under Part 111, Hazardous Waste Management, of the Michigan Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, and the administrative rules promulgated thereunder.
Procedures for Processing Hazardous Waste Operating License Applications have been updated. The changes seek to streamline the licensing process and improve the public engagement process. Applicants are now asked to consider Environmental Justice concerns prior to applying. The procedures and related documents are below.
