White Pine Copper LLC has applied for a Mining Permit under Part 632, Nonferrous Metallic Mineral Mining, of the Michigan Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994, PA 451, as amended, and associated administrative rules, to develop an underground copper and silver mine located at and adjacent to the historic White Pine Mine site in Carp Lake Township, Ontonagon County.
The public comment period is open from 8:00am November 4 to 5:00pm December 2, 2026.

About Part 632 Nonferrous metallic mineral mining
Nonferrous minerals are regulated under Part 632: Nonferrous Metallic Mining and include important economic minerals such as copper, nickel, zinc, gold, and silver.
Some of these metals are very important globally for manufacturing, including production of green technologies such as electric vehicles and emission control catalysts.
Part 632 provides a sound regulatory framework for construction, operation, and reclamation of mining operations required for the safe and environmentally sustainable extraction of these metallic minerals.
