Governor Granholm Encourages Nominations for Volunteer Service Awards
LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today encouraged Michigan citizens to nominate individuals, groups, organizations, and others from across the state for the Governor’s Service Awards.
“Volunteers are the heroes of our state, and the heart and soul of any effort to create the positive change we seek in the world around us,” said Governor Granholm. “The Governor’s Service Awards are just one small way we can say thank you to those who make our state a better place to live, work, and grow.”
The Governor's Service Awards recognize the outstanding efforts of Michigan's volunteers. Awards are given to youth, adults, seniors, educators, National Service members and programs, businesses, nonprofit and faith-based organizations, education institutions, and more. Award winners will receive a Governor’s Special Tribute at a local ceremony; honorable mention recipients also receive special recognition from the Governor.
Nominations for the 2003 Governor’s Service Awards should be postmarked by September 1, 2003 and nominations can be submitted on an ongoing basis for future awards. The nomination form and guidelines are available at the Michigan Community Service Commission web site at www.michigan.gov/mcsc. Click on Programs and Activities, then Governor's Service Awards, then the "Governor's Service Awards Honor Volunteers" article. You can also obtain a nomination form by contacting Kathie Vasilion at (517) 373-4200 or vasilionk@michigan.gov.
A volunteer peer review panel reviews nominations and selects award winners and honorable mention recipients.
