Golf Industry Veteran Leverages Industry Experience to Expand Registered Apprenticeship Programs

Michael Morris retired in 2024 after 38 distinguished years as Golf Course Superintendent at Crystal Downs Country Club. Throughout his career, Michael was recognized as a leading educator in the golf course management industry, particularly for his influential collaboration with Dr. Thomas Nikolai of Michigan State University.
Together, they developed and presented widely acclaimed educational programs including "Managing Putting Green Speed and Golfer Expectations" and "The ABC's of Putting Green Management." Since 2001, these programs have become among the most requested presentations globally in the golf industry.
Today, Michael serves as the program manager for Michigan Golf Course Association’s Golf Course Technician Registered Apprenticeship Program. In this role, he oversees the administration of the Registered Apprenticeship Program and mentors registered apprentices, golf course owners, managers and staff through on-the-job training, online coursework and commercial pesticide applicator certification.
Michael now dedicates his extensive experience and expertise to expanding the use of Registered Apprenticeship Programs by consulting with golf courses, clubs and associations worldwide. Driven by his passion for the industry and commitment to developing the next generation of professionals, he provides knowledge, leadership and coaching to help organizations achieve excellence in golf course management.
