Employers can get an early look at UIA’s upcoming computer system

Sessions include key features of new MiUI platform, where to find resources

Employers and their unemployment account administrators can sign up for a sneak peek at the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency’s (UIA) new, user-friendly computer system, which is scheduled to launch in mid-December. The live MiUi demonstrations will provide an overview of key changes from UIA’s current system and will help users prepare their organization for the new platform.

Employers and third-party administrators (TPAs), who perform various unemployment insurance duties for an employer, can sign up for the online MiUI sessions at Michigan.gov/UIA. There are two sessions for employers and one for TPAs each week with morning and afternoon times.

“UIA is eager to collaborate with employers and TPAs in this unique opportunity for users to see what we have planned in our upcoming modern system,” said Jason Palmer, UIA Director. “These live seminars will demonstrate key areas of the MiUI unemployment insurance platform and offer valuable insight into how employers and TPAs can get their organizations ready for this exciting launch of MiUI.”

Topics that will be addressed during the employer or TPA seminars include:

  • Accessing MiUI through a new or current MiLogin account.
  • How to activate an account and add users.
  • Navigating through your employer or TPA account.
  • How employers will assign to their account a TPA and designate what duties they will perform for the employer.
  • New file formats and how to submit a Wage and Tax Report.
  • How to submit a payment.
  • Where to find newsletters, FAQs, checklists, and trainings on MiUI University.

MiUI is a modern tax and benefits solution that will replace UIA’s current Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM) system, which is more than a decade old. Employers use MiWAM to file wage reports and pay taxes that support the unemployment insurance trust fund. Benefits are paid out of the trust fund to qualified workers who lose a job through no fault of their own.

MiUI is designed to streamline processes, enhance security, provide a more intuitive interface, and incorporate robust anti-fraud protections. MiUI will launch in two phases: Tax functions for employers and TPAs are scheduled to roll out on Dec. 15, 2025, with benefits functions for all users (employers and claimants) scheduled to be available in summer 2026.

Until full launch next summer, employers and TPAs will use MiUI and MiWAM. Workers filing for or collecting benefits will continue to use MiWAM until summer 2026.

5 things employers and TPAs can do now

There are several must do actions employers and TPAs should complete before they are ready for MiUI. These include:

  1. Creating a MiLogin for Business Account.
  2. Confirming MiWAM access to initiate your MiUI Account.
  3. Reviewing information in MiWAM and making updates to contact information, payment methods, and user permissions.
  4. Validating current employer-TPA associations and role assignments.
  5. Familiarizing yourself with the MiUI wage report file formats and test those files by using the Wage Report File Validation Tool.
