Troy High School Media Center named the 2022 2023
October 21, 2022
LANSING – Troy High School Media Center, part of the Troy School District, has earned the state’s 21st Century Model School Library (SL 21) award for the 2022-2023 school year, the Library of Michigan (LM) announced today.
The Troy High School Media Center, with librarian and media specialist Toni Isaac, is a place where the partnership with the public library has expanded opportunities and resources for students and teachers.
Troy High School’s library was selected for the Model SL 21 honor for its focus on connecting the school community with community resources such as the public library as well as outstanding literacy support across the curriculum for students and teachers, according to the Library of Michigan.
“Strong libraries help drive high literacy rates, and Troy’s library is a leader,” said State Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice.
State Librarian Randy Riley said Isaac’s and Principal Remo Roncone’s quality work for their students is integral to academic achievement.
“Students need access to resources and community support,” Riley said. “The partnerships that the school and school library are providing to Troy High School’s students ensure that students have the resources and content when and where they need it.”
The Model SL 21 program recognizes particularly high-quality school libraries and library media specialists and promotes the development of similar initiatives in other schools. The program is based on the LM's School Library 21st Century benchmarks. The Troy High School Media Center holds Exemplary status in the SL 21 program through May 2025.
Troy High School Media Center staff are available to consult with school district leaders, school librarians, and educators who want to develop or expand their vision for their school library programs.
