87 Teachers Statewide to Gain National Board Certification Through MDE Grants
December 10, 2024
LANSING – The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) has awarded $153,025 in grant money to 22 districts on behalf of eligible teachers to pursue National Board Certification for the first time.
Grants are awarded under Section 388.1627m(7) of the fiscal year 2025 State School Aid Act.
Intermediate school districts and local education agencies, both traditional public school districts and public school academies, applied on behalf of 87 teachers. Funds must be used to cover the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification fees for first-time candidates in Schoolwide Title I schools.
“When teachers earn National Board Certification, research shows that student learning improves,” said State Superintendent Dr. Michael F. Rice. “We encourage more teachers to pursue and earn National Board Certification.”
