LANSING – Videos of students in Michigan expressing gratitude to their teachers are a part of state efforts to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Month in May.
The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and State Board of Education are recognizing Michigan teachers for all they do for children—and sharing words of appreciation from their students— during the month. MDE is also celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week, May 5-9.
“Michigan teachers do so much for children. Teachers help their students learn. They give them support as they grow up. They prepare them for the future and help them realize their dreams,” said State Superintendent Dr. Michael F. Rice. “Who better than their students to talk about how important teachers are to young people?”
Recruiting and retaining quality educator supports Goal 7 of Michigan’s Top 10 Strategic Education Plan, to increase the number of certified teachers in areas of shortage.
“I am always amazed to observe the tremendous positive effect that our hardworking and caring teachers have on Michigan’s children,” said State Board of Education President Dr. Pamela Pugh. “The State Board and I want to thank our teachers for everything they do for children and families.”
To show gratitude for teachers’ commitment to their profession, MDE invited families, parents, guardians, and community members to help highlight the state’s remarkable teachers by submitting videos of students expressing appreciation for their teachers.
These videos are featured on MDE's YouTube channel and the Teacher Appreciation Month webpage. The MDE Office of Educator Excellence’s Facebook social media page will promote the videos throughout the month.
