Education Programs in Child Caring Institutions
About Michigan School Code Section 1281c
Section 1281c (Public Act 11 of 2024) of the Michigan School Code was part of the three-law package that supports youth experiencing foster care. The new amendatory section of the Michigan School Code (MCL 380.1281c) states that the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) must regularly review any educational program provided in a Child Caring Institution (CCI) to ensure that the program complies with the Michigan School Code provisions and rules. The definition of a CCI can be found in the Michigan Child Care Licensing Act, specifically in Section 1-Definitions (MCL 722.111).
