One of the MSP's three strategic goals is an investment in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Specifically, Goal 3 is "to build a department culture that values trust, transparency, and individual contributions that will inspire the confidence of department members, the public and our stakeholders."
In support of this goal, the MSP is working to make changes to recruiting and hiring practices that will reduce barriers to employment in order to increase the trooper minority applicant pool and female applicant pool, which will help to diversify the agency. Because the diversity of a police force is critically important to strengthening community relationships and building trust, the MSP has set an aggressive target of increasing its racial minority trooper applicant pool to 25 percent and the female trooper applicant pool to 20 percent.
