EGLE launches Instagram account
January 19, 2023
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is expanding its reach in the social media environment with an EGLE Instagram account.
Launched earlier this month, the account aims to engage Michiganders on EGLE's work to protect the environment and public health featuring behind the scenes with the EGLE team, community stories, photos of Michigan’s natural resources and ways to protect it.
With more than 40 state agencies currently using Instagram, EGLE is that latest to provide the Instagram platform to communicate with a demographic the department traditionally hasn’t reached very well – a younger audience than EGLE’s Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube reaches.
“Communication is one of EGLE's five values and social media has proven to be an effective tool for state departments to reach residents and communities where they are,” said Hugh McDiarmid, EGLE communications manager. “We are excited to reach the public we serve in various ways and Instagram will help us do just that with an audience that we need to more fully engage.”
Michiganders are encouraged to follow @MichiganEGLE Instagram page and actively participate by posting comments and photos.
Other ways to engage with EGLE include visiting the department's website and subscribing to the MI Environment publication and/or any of the agency's many bulletin delivery lists.
