Jon Kujat
Health and Safety Specialist
Jon Kujat serves the state of Michigan for the last two years, as the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s (MDARD) Health and Safety Specialist.
Prior to coming to MDARD he worked for Central Michigan University for 24 years as its Manager of Risk Management, Environmental Health & Safety as well as Emergency Manager. He has worked in a variety of industries such as warehousing, distribution & transportation, consulting, education and automotive. In these functions he has trained an average of 3,500 employees a year over the past twenty years on variety of topics. He has been invited to present various safety topics for many years at the Michigan Safety Conference and was an annual presenter at the Mid-Michigan Safety Expo. He is a Certified Safety and Health Manager and holds a master’s degree in Industrial Management and Technology from Central Michigan University and did his undergraduate studies at the University of Detroit.
Mr. Kujat is the author of "Fleet Safety Made Easy: A simplified Approach to Safety and Accident Prevention and A Comparison of Popular Remediation Technologies of Petroleum Contaminated Soils for Leaking Underground Storage Tanks." He recently retired from the Shepherd Tri-Township Fire Department after 21 years of service attaining the rank of Captain and has retired from the Isabella County Hazardous Materials Response Team attaining the rank of Assistant Chief. In addition, he is an instructor at Unity College, Central Michigan University and Waldorf University, teaching topics on environmental health, occupational safety, public health, hazardous materials response, and construction safety.
