The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s (EGLE) Water Well Viewer (WWV), is an interactive mapping system that displays water wells along with other information, such as wellhead protection areas, underground storage tanks, and sites of environmental contamination. Water well locations have been identified by address matching, the use of global positioning systems (GPS), and by legal descriptions.
This system allows water well drilling and pump installation contractors to submit water well records.
EGLE's interactive calendar is designed to provide timely information on decisions before the Director, proposed settlements of contested cases, administrative rules promulgation, public hearings, meetings and comment deadlines, and environmental conferences, workshops and training programs.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is awarding $4.75 million in Brownfield Redevelopment Grants to five projects that will create up to 306 new apartments, townhomes and condos in Ann Arbor, Bay City, Detroit, Orchard Lake Village and Traverse City.
The following projects are on contaminated properties where environmental costs would be too expensive without EGLE support.
A $1 million EGLE grant is helping to bring as many as 116 new middle- and low-income homes to Bay City. The $40 million redevelopment is split into two phases. Phase I will be a four-story building with 39 apartments and 17 townhomes. Phase II will add another 50-60 housing units. The EGLE grant will help pay for demolition, removal of soil contaminated by metals and organic compounds, and other environmental work to make the property safe for redevelopment. Construction is expected to be finished in 2027.

EGLE awarded a $750,000 grant to a project bringing 54 new housing units to Detroit’s historic West Village neighborhood. The grant will be used for demolition and to remove contaminated soil from the former dry cleaner site. The $16.4 million redevelopment includes 50 apartments and four townhomes plus 1,600 square feet of commercial space. At least 10 of the apartments will be reserved for people making up to 80% of the Area Median Income. The city of Detroit sees The Coe as a catalyst for further development in the West Village and invested $3 million in the project. Construction is scheduled to be finished in the fall of 2027.

EGLE’s $1 million grant will help revitalize downtown Traverse City’s Warehouse District. The Grandview Vision redevelopment will turn a vacant lot on Grandview Parkway into 20 new condos plus retail space. The Garland Street site will be a retail space and a parking garage. Grant money will pay for demolition and asbestos abatement, removal of contaminated soil, and other environmental work. Traverse City and its Downtown Development Authority are supplementing the project by putting $1 million into pedestrian-friendly infrastructure improvements in the Warehouse District. Construction is expected to be done in 2028.

A $1 million EGLE grant will help bring 24 new apartments and as many as 20 jobs to the city of Orchard Lake Village in Oakland County. The property at 4200 is a contaminated former dry cleaner site, and the contamination has spread to the other two properties. Grant money will be used to remove 10,000 tons of soil and install a vapor mitigation system in the new building. The $14.3 million redevelopment will be a mixed-use building with apartments and retail space. The developer is spending another $500,000 on infrastructure improvements. Construction is expected to be finished in the spring of 2027.

EGLE is awarding additional funding to a project that will create 92 new housing units and up to 100 new jobs in Ann Arbor. The 13-acre former site of the Broadway Manufactured Gas Plant is contaminated with metals and petroleum compounds. An EGLE grant awarded in 2021 will be supplemented to provide a combined $1 million to remove contaminated soil. The State of Michigan is contributing a separate $20 million enhancement grant and Washtenaw County approved $17 million in Tax Increment Financing. The $100 million Broadway Park West redevelopment will have four six-story buildings with for-sale condos and townhomes, 10,900 square feet of commercial space and a nine-story “destination” hotel. Grant-funded work is expected to be done in 2026.

More than half of EGLE’s annual budget supports local projects, protects public health and the environment, and helps create economic growth and jobs for Michigan workers. Redevelopment increases the value of brownfield sites and other nearby properties. In 2024 EGLE awarded $25.1 million in brownfield incentives to 87 projects around Michigan.
