Materials Management Division

The Materials Management Division (MMD) oversees the solid and hazardous waste programs, radioactive materials activities, radon awareness program, and energy program. The division oversees waste disposal, transportation, and storage as well as implementing strategies to support pollution prevention and beneficial uses of waste materials. Activities in the radiological area include coordinating with nuclear power plants, local emergency responders, and the federal government to ensure that Michigan has sufficient resources in the event of a radioactive material release.     Meet Acting Director Tracy Kecskemeti

    Tracy Kecskemeti is the Director of the Materials Management Division (MMD). She leads programs that promote sustainability and ensure the safe management of waste and radiological materials to protect public health and Michigan’s environment.

    Tracy is especially focused on aligning traditional waste regulatory programs with efforts in recycling, waste reduction, materials recovery, and energy efficiency to advance a more circular economy and minimize the impacts of waste.
