  • About the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons

    The Michigan Bureau of Services for Blind Persons (BSBP) believes in the capacity of people who are blind or visually impaired to achieve employment and independence. BSBP provides training and services that empower people to achieve their individual goals. If you live in Michigan and you're blind or visually impaired, the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons will work with you to define your goals and identify appropriate training and services. BSBP provides vocational skills training to aid in finding a job and training in daily living skills for State of Michigan residents living without vision. Depending upon your needs and eligibility for specific services, BSBP may also provide some types of adaptive equipment, computer software, and postsecondary education.

    Mission

    The mission of the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons is to provide opportunities to individuals who are blind or visually impaired to achieve employment, and/or achieve maximum and meaningful independence in life through comprehensive rehabilitative services.

    Vision

    It is the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons vision to help Michigan become a better State for blind and visually impaired persons to be equal contributing citizens that enjoy all the advantages of a full, independent life.

    Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) is the sister agency to BSBP and assists people with disabilities to obtain and or maintain employment.

    The Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services (MCRS or Council) gives advice and works in strategic partnership with Michigan’s two Designated State Units (DSUs), the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons (BSBP) and Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS), for providing Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Services.

Pursuant to section 238 of PA 166 of 2022, the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Opportunity posts this notice that it has adopted a hybrid policy that includes in-person, remote, and alternative work arrangements. The department or agency has the authority to assign and schedule its employees and determine their work location. This policy also provides for work options contingent upon the operational needs of the department or agency. Approval is at the discretion of the department or agency and can be changed or rescinded based upon operational needs. The policy includes which positions may qualify for a work option, how to request one and the requirements necessary for approval.
