Executive Director Ginna Holmes
Ginna Holmes was appointed the executive director of the Michigan Community Service Commission in June 2013. In this role, Ms. Holmes oversees the day-to-day operations for the MCSC, one of the nation’s leading state service commissions-- administering more than $7.5 million in state, federal, and private funds to support local national service and volunteer efforts.
Prior to coming to the MCSC, Ms. Holmes served for five years as the director of Academic and Career Planning at Alma College, where she and her staff helped students identify and plan for their educational and professional goals. In addition, Ms. Holmes has held numerous other positions in the public service sector, including executive director of the Alma Community Center - Alma Public School's EXPLORE Program, executive director of the Alma Public School's K-12 After-School and Summer Program, and assistant director of the Center for Student Development at Alma College. Ginna began her professional career as a high school teacher and has worked with all ages of youth, from preschool to college.
In addition to her professional experiences, Ms. Holmes’ commitment to service has expanded to her personal life as well. She has served as the adviser for the Gratiot County Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council for 18 years and as a member of the MID-Michigan Women's Resource Center Board for the past 8 years. Ms. Holmes has also served as part of the Alma and St. Louis Rotary Club for the past six years, during which she served one year as president, and was a member of the Mentor Michigan Provider’s Council from 2004 until 2013, serving for three years as the chair and vice chair.
Ms. Holmes received a bachelor’s degree in Health Education from Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan before obtaining her master’s degree in Counseling Education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Ms. Holmes is also a licensed professional counselor in the State of Michigan. She resides in Alma, Michigan with her husband and has four adult children.
