Wayne County Community College District provides opportunities for youth to increase their confidence to pursue college by creating a positive classroom atmosphere and college experience. WCCD partnered with The Lawn Academy to provide a free college immersion program uniquely designed to cater to the youth of the community. The program develops skills and proficiency for youth, age 11-19, in areas of automotive technology, global logistics, marketing, entrepreneurialism and civic responsibility. Youth are matched with industry leaders in the public sectors and provided an opportunity that would not have been possible without the assistance of WCCD. The recent years have proven to be a significant time of achievement as volunteers of the college have made it a top priority to educate youth from the community. As a result of the program, parents and youth are now engaging in conversations about college. A conversation that may not have been considered or thought of prior to program participation.
