Youth Volunteer of the Year - Emma Eimers
Emma Eimers has been helping to feed Detroit’s homeless and hungry since she was 5 years old. With the help of family, Emma and her brother Robby started the Eimers Foundation, a nonprofit to aid the efforts to battle poverty. During this work, Emma noticed an unmet need in which many of their homeless “friends” had pets that also needed a healthy meal. Emma, who wants to be a veterinarian, started a division of the foundation called Furry Friends to help take care of homeless animals. Now 13, Emma and Robby, 17, serve about 200 homeless people and their pets each week. The siblings have raised more than $90,000 to support those less fortunate. They have used this money to give hot meals, financial and emotional support and more to the people and animals living in poverty in the community. These siblings have single-handedly saved families from foreclosure and helped save the lives of animals by paying for their necessary medical attention. The most common sentiment that her nominator hears from those that Emma serves is that she is an angel from heaven, and they will be forever grateful for what she has done to help them.
