Community Foundation Philanthropy Award - Doug and Margaret DeCamp
2017 Community Foundation Philanthropy Award
The DeCamp family of Barry County has contributed financial resources throughout Hastings and Barry County in all of the traditional manners. However, they have also been instrumental in creating cutting-edge investments that promise to change the landscape for Barry County’s most vulnerable population. Co-founder of Flexfab in 1961, Doug has served on the Hastings City Bank Board for 27 years, the Hastings Manufacturing Board for 17 years, and the Thornapple Foundation Board, which jump started the Barry Community Foundation, among other leadership roles. Margaret has joined him in their work with the First Presbyterian Church, the YMCA and Pennock Hospital. The DeCamp family and its recently formed foundation have helped the Pierce Cedar Creek Institute start an endowment fund at the community foundation. They have partnered with the community foundation to launch KickStart to Career, an innovative children’s savings account program for every kindergartner in the county. Doug and Margaret are insistent that this program not only start the savings process for children, but teach them how important it is to set financial goals. Doug and Margaret are “game changing” supporters for Barry County, and as one supporter shared, “It is their blending of heart and humility that inspires us to do the next right thing.”
