Senior Volunteer of the Year - Magnolia Bodley
Senior Volunteer of the Year Award: honors individuals age 65 and older who have taken action to make their community a better place to live through service.
MAGNOLIA BODLEY of Kalamazoo sees volunteering as a way of life and has spent nearly her entire life helping others. She started volunteering alongside her children with various organizations as they were growing up and then decided to do even more after her retirement. In 2001, after a knee surgery, she received assistance from Senior Services of Southwest Michigan. She pledged she would serve others in need when she healed and since then she has served more than 5,000 hours with them. Maggie has volunteered for Lending Hands, RSVP, Ecumenical Senior Center, Greater Kalamazoo Holiday Food Drive, Eastside Neighborhood Association, and the Kalamazoo Deacons Conference. “People love Maggie’s easy smile, her sharp wit, and sparkling personality. She is such a comfort to people overwhelmed by an accident or illness,” said John Hilliard, Lending Hands President and CEO.
