Senior Volunteer of the Year - Sandra Bowden-Whelton
Sandra Bowden-Whelton moved to Williamston more than 40 years ago, and much to her surprise, it quickly became an integral part of her life and personal mission. She has been a member of the Red Cedar Jubilee Committee for 35 years and has served as its president for 20 years. Sandra is also a member of the Williamston Lions Club and the Williamston board member for Northeast Ingham Emergency Service Authority. Sandra organizes an annual 9/11 ceremony to pay homage to those who put their own lives on the line for the safety of others. In her spare time, she created an organization called Pyper’s Diapers, which supplies diapers to the local food bank. Sandra is the person the community calls when something is needed. She organizes fundraisers for those in need, community events and festivals. “The biggest thing I hear from people is that she can make anything happen,” said Sandra’s daughter, Kristin Horstman. “She will never leave Williamston or stop supporting its overall good and growth.”
