Youth Volunteer of the Year - Sarah Maisano
Youth Volunteer of the Year Award: honors individuals who are age 25 or younger who have already begun making a significant difference in their community through service.
SARAH MAISANO of Clinton Township has dreams to help hospitalized children in all 50 states. She’s well on her way to her goal, having reached nearly 5,000 children in 12 states with her nonprofit, S.K.I.P. (Supporting Kids In Pain). S.K.I.P. works with the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation, annually donates to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and provides toys to children at Detroit churches. S.K.I.P. care bags consist of coloring books, crayons, jump ropes, books, puzzles and stuffed animals. So far, the organization has raised over $20,000. Sarah served more than 1,000 hours in high school and is a devoted advocate for volunteerism and has been able to reach out to thousands of other youth, encouraging them to donate their time as well. “I want to motivate others to make a difference in the world,” Sarah said. “It doesn’t take much to make a big difference for someone else.”
