Lake Gogebic Senior Citizens Club, Inc/Ontonagon County Commission on Aging
Lake Gogebic Senior Citizens Club, Inc provides services to the elderly, which enables them to remain in their home for as long as possible. The dedicated staff helps assist seniors with their independence.
The Lake Gogebic Senior Center was acquired in 1969 in response to the needs of the local senior citizens. The Center houses two areas that provide services to the seniors. One area houses the office of Lake Gogebic Senior Citizens Club, Inc. and Ontonagon County Commission on Aging. (Each have their own board: LGSCC consists of five residents representing seniors and OCCOA is a county board which is an agency that provides leadership and assistance for our grant funding.) The other area is a gathering point site for senior citizens of the community. It serves as an activity center and a meeting facility for various community groups. (ie. Senior Recreation Club, Historical Society, Veterans, Painters, Sewers etc.) These two Agencies promote, enhance, and provide various services to the aging population. This enables them to remain in their homes longer by providing homemaker and personal care. Support, relief, and reassurance is also provided to Caregivers by providing respite care in their homes or through our Adult Day Centers. Our funding source is through state/federal grants through UCAP (Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress) and our county millage which are used solely for providing these services. We also contract with the Veterans Administration to provide in-home services for eligible veterans.
An inspection in Spring of 2023 revealed that the building was in serious disrepair requiring many updates to meet today’s codes. Thus Michigan Community Center and Neighborhood Initiative Grant will go towards supporting the Lake Gogebic Senior Center Renovations Project.
