Lake Superior Village Youth and Family Center
Lake Superior Village Youth and Family Center
Lake Superior Village Youth and Family Center is a non-profit organization which provides multiple programs for low-income families and at-risk youth, ages 4-18. All funding for supplies, programing, yearly expenses, and operations costs are procured by generous donations, grants, fundraising and sponsorships from the local community along with state and federal funding.
The Youth and Family Center is located at 1901 Longyear Avenue in the Lake Superior Village Housing main office building. The facility can hold 65 people, has a state certified full kitchen, a large meeting place for many types of community gatherings, and a large playground and basketball court. The Youth and Family Center is currently in service to about 500 people in the Lake Superior Village community and surrounding area with an average attendance of 25 youth daily. The Youth and Family Center will continue to create a lasting impact on the lives of the Lake Superior Village community by providing all programing, events, and activities free of charge and at the highest quality of service. The organization hopes the programs, events, and activities the provide will build lasting connections and bonds within the community and will grow healthy, strong, and resilient individuals giving them the best opportunities for success in their futures. The Youth and Family Center currently provides a Free Meals for Youth Program, opportunities in STEM Programs, a Community Learning Resource Lab, continuous Tutoring and Mentoring Programs, and Youth Empowerment Programs to give youth a place to overcome self-doubt and self-esteem issues.
The Youth and Family Center is planning on adding new programs that will include Weekend Meals and Family Resource Programing in the near future.
