Read-Osborne Post 531
Read-Osborne Post 531
Read-Osborne Post 531 is the only building in the Copemish area that can accommodate many community venues. Built by veterans in 1948 after being awarded a charter by the Michigan American Legion, the building is home to American Legion 531, the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 531 and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary 531. The hall has been used for weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, birthday parties, retirement parties, reunions and anniversaries and acts as a station for the community in case of emergencies. They have community dances, play host to local cub scouts, council on aging meetings and luncheons, little league teams, community yard sales and celebrations of life for veterans and non-veterans. For veterans, the post has an honor guard for military funerals. And with seating in the building being 200, the Village of Copemish and the Township of Cleon use the building for any meetings that require additional room.
This grant will allow them to complete much needed building repairs and improvements and the hall will be better able to serve veterans and the community.
