Sherman Township Library
Sherman Township Library
Nestled in northwest Isabella County, the community of Weidman has supported a library since 1970. What began as a volunteer-run venture eventually joined the county-wide system headed by Veteran’s Memorial Library in Mt. Pleasant, which later became the Chippewa River District Library System. The District Library millage did not pass for the Weidman branch in 2008. A committee formed at the Township level in 2010 and work began to reopen the library. Sherman Township Library, as it exists now, reopened in the spring of 2011.
The library plans to add an addition to the existing library building of approximately 40' x 60' to allow for additional collection and resource space, community gathering space, a large meeting room for use by the library and other local organizations, and smaller private meeting rooms to be used by community members. The space would include equipment in the form of seating, a new circulation desk, appropriate tables and chairs for a meeting room, and shelving to better house the collection in an accessible manner. In addition to the structure and its interior finishes, the project also plans to include an extension of the existing parking lot to allow increased access to the building, the addition of a sidewalk along the length of the parking lot, and the landscaping to create a welcoming outdoor space for use by the community when the building itself is closed.
