Youth Arts Alliance
Since Youth Arts Alliance’s (YAA) founding in 2013, over 10,000 young people, their families and community members from across Michigan have engaged in healing-centered, high quality arts programming. YAA’s cohort of teaching artists responds to the visions and creative aspirations of young people, meeting them where they are.
YAA firmly believes that access to high-quality arts experiences and education is a human right. They’re committed to sharing healing-centered (trauma-informed) arts programming with youth artists, their families, and surrounding communities with local teaching artists’ dedicated support and expertise. YAA programming invites connection, dialogue, and empathy, bringing us towards healthier, more just, collaborative communities.
The grant funds will be used towards Home for Healing, a community center built for multi-disciplinary programming engagement with well-vetted and trusted community organizations who are currently, and have historically offered healing centered arts programming
Home for Healing seeks to continue collective effort to center the health, well-being, growth and connection of Ypsilanti residents outside of siloed programming models; that is engagement and referral into Home for Healing programming isn’t tied to system involvement or deficit centered need, i.e. juvenile justice programming, foster care programming, mental health programming, low-income family programming, special education programming, substance use and abuse support, grief and loss support, post-traumatic growth programming, etc. Rather, centering shared interests, passions, self-identified areas of growth and learning, gatherings of healing, gatherings of joy, intergenerational and familial connections in a community center space that is collectively visioned, built, and sustained through values-driven and transparent decision making.
