New permit process takes effect

  • When does YEPP become required?

YEPP become required on October 2, 2026.

  • Will schools still issue work permits?

No. Beginning October 2, permits will be issued through YEPP.

  • Will permits issued before YEPP be honored?

Yes. A valid work permit issued by a Michigan school before YEPP launches will continue to be honored. A minor will not need to obtain a new permit solely because the permitting process moved to YEPP.

Employers should keep existing school-issued permits on file, register their business in YEPP if they plan to hire minors and continue complying with all applicable youth-employment requirements.

A new YEPP permit will be required if the minor changes employers.

  • Where can I get help?

Support, webinars, user guides and training materials are available in YEPP.
