Overview
Participants learn adaptive kitchen skills that build independence, from basic food preparation to planning and cooking full meals for themselves and others. Training covers cooking fundamentals such as knife skills, measuring, pouring, kitchen safety, and kitchen orientation. Participants also explore healthy eating methods that support their nutrition goals. By the end of the course, participants have the skills and confidence to cook and eat healthily at home or on the go.
- General Kitchen Safety: Participants learn to spot and identify potential hazards in the kitchen: minimizing slippery floors, cleaning up spills, broken, shattered glass, how to spot and address grease, electrical fires and use of fire extinguishers to put out the fire and get appropriate assistance to address damages caused by the fire. Participanst also learn to handle power outages and how to maintain perishable food items from turning on a short to long outages. Other safety areas included detecting and identifying food expiration, spoilage, food born illness, cross contamination and proper sanitation and food storage and packaging.
