Digital Talking Book Machine
Digital Talking Book Machines, also known as digital players, are available for loan to patrons to use with digital talking books and magazines from NLS and the library. To receive a digital player, fill out an application for service and indicate you would like to receive books by USPS to your home. We will send the digital player to use with the book cartridges.
Digital books (DB's) are downloaded to our custom cartridges for patrons to use with the Digital Talking Book Machine. Each cartridge is downloaded on-demand based on patron reading preferences, and multiple books are sent per cartridge. For more information about the collection, visit the Books and Materials page.
Accessories for the digital player, such as headphones, pillow speakers, and remote controls, are also available upon request. High Volume Players for patrons with severe hearing loss and Breath Switch remote controls for patrons with severe mobility issues can be obtained with a special application. Please contact BTBL at 1-800-992-9012 for more information.
Talking Book Machines remain the property of the Federal Government and are loaned only to eligible, active library patrons. Machines may not be:
- Loaned to other individuals
- Sold or traded
- Thrown away or dismantled
Defective or unused machines must be returned to the library.
