CT Rules Begin the Promulgation Process (posted 2/24/2010)
On October 30, 2009, I sent the LISTSERV a notice that the Radiation Safety Section was working on a new set of rules on computed tomography. Since that notice, we were informed by our Legal Affairs Office that we do not have authority to make rules setting qualifications for physicians who interpret CT exams so we removed that rule. The modified rules have now officially entered the rules promulgation process.
You can follow the progress of the promulgation process by using this link (no longer active) and checking on 2009-040 CH, Ionizing Radiation Rules - Part 15. Computed Tomography Installations. The draft rule can be read there or on our website under Draft Rules for Comment. We anticipate having a public hearing on the rules before summer.
