What is MARVIN?
MARVIN, which stands for "Michigan's Automated Response Voice Interactive Network" is an automated computer system that lets people who are collecting unemployment report (or "certify") to UIA by telephone.
When you file for unemployment, you will get instructions about how to "talk" with MARVIN. MARVIN's statewide toll-free number is 1-866-638-3993. Click here for more information about MARVIN.
How do I certify? You can certify your benefits through your MiWAM account under your account alerts or by calling MARVIN at 1-866-638-3993. Remember not to certify both by phone and online, this will cause an error in your account. It takes 24-28 hours for your MiWAM account to update after certifying online or by phone.
How do I report part-time earnings? You must always report your gross earnings in the week you performed the work. To report your weekly earnings: If you receive hourly pay, multiply your hourly rate of pay by the number of hours worked for each separate calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) and report the total gross (gross = before taxes and deductions) earnings to MARVIN. Report the earnings to MiWAM online or MARVIN by phone for the week in which you did the work.
How do I set up a MARVIN PIN?You set up your own MARVIN PIN the first time you certify with MARVIN by phone. Your MARVIN PIN should be a 4-Digit number which is easy for you to remember. There are a few restrictions: You cannot use any of your own personally identifying information, such as your Social Security number, address, birthday or year; no sequential numbers, such as '1234' or '9876'; and you cannot use more than two of the same digit in a row.
What do I do if I waived a week by mistake? Please contact customer service at 1-866-500-0017 for correction or send a message in your MiWAM account.
What if I missed my time to call MARVIN?Claimants who certify by phone must call Monday-Wednesday or their designated day and time that corresponds with the last two digits of their Social Security Number (SSN). If you missed your call-in day, you may call MARVIN on Thursday or Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You may certify on MIWAM 7 days a week 24 hours a day.
