Registered Apprenticeship Group Sponsors

Group Sponsor (Intermediary)

A USDOL Registered Apprenticeship Group Sponsor, also known as an intermediary, acts as a third-party organization that helps multiple employers establish and run a Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP). They take on a significant portion of the administrative and operational burden, allowing the employers to focus on the on-the-job training and mentoring of apprentices.

The primary responsibilities of a Group Sponsor include:

  • Serve as a RAP sponsor for multiple employers
  • Provide access to existing occupational programs, expediting program start
  • Connect employers with available state and federal funding
  • Define the employers’ On-the-Job Learning work process (critical work skills)
  • Partner with educational institutions for "related instruction" (RI) curriculum
  • Submit the training program with the USDOL Office of Apprenticeship for registration
  • Manage program paperwork, apprentice records, and federal compliance, including EEO
  • Update the program as the employers' workforce needs evolve
  • Promote the employers' program and assist with recruitment as needed

Additionally, support is provided to employers who want to hold their own USDOL OA standards.
