LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) has awarded Cintas Corporation K15 in Westland the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP) Star Award, highlighting the value of the program in strengthening workplace safety and health across Michigan.
The Michigan Voluntary Protection Program recognizes employers that go beyond compliance by implementing comprehensive safety and health management systems that prevent injuries and illnesses. Participating sites demonstrate strong leadership commitment, active employee involvement and a proactive approach to identifying and controlling workplace hazards.
“MVPP represents the highest level of recognition for workplace safety and health in Michigan,” said MIOSHA Consultation Education and Training Division On-Site Safety and Health Program Manager Kristin Osterkamp. “This program is about building a culture where safety is part of everyday operations and employees are actively engaged in protecting themselves and their coworkers.”
Cintas Corporation K15 earned MVPP Star recognition following a comprehensive evaluation process that included program review, onsite assessment and employee interviews. The Westland facility employs 95 workers and provides contamination control garment processing and distribution services supporting industries such as pharmaceutical, biotechnology and electronics.
Only 29 worksites across Michigan currently hold MVPP Star status, MIOSHA’s highest workplace safety and health recognition. Through participation in MVPP, employers work in partnership with MIOSHA to continuously improve their safety and health programs. These sites serve as models for other employers, demonstrating that strong safety and health systems can reduce injuries, improve operations and protect workers.
Cintas is one of several Michigan employers that have committed to this approach, with multiple MVPP Star worksites across the state. Nationwide, the company maintains more than 140 Voluntary Protection Program Star sites.
MIOSHA established the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program in 1996 to recognize employers with exemplary safety and health management systems that exceed MIOSHA requirements. The program is open to qualifying employers with injury and illness rates below industry averages and includes a rigorous evaluation process to verify that systems are effective and fully integrated into daily operations.
MIOSHA encourages employers across all industries to explore the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program and take proactive steps to strengthen workplace safety and health.
