Dr. Pamela Pugh Reelected President of State Board of Education
January 14, 2025
LANSING – Dr. Pamela Pugh today was reelected president of the State Board of Education by her fellow board members, who also elected other officers.
“It’s an honor to be chosen again by my colleagues to serve as board president,” Pugh said. “I look forward to continuing to work with other board members, the Michigan Department of Education, Gov. Whitmer, legislators, and our communities and local public schools to meet the goals in Michigan’s Top 10 Strategic Education Plan. While we definitely have accomplishments to celebrate, there is much more work to do to repair harm to public education caused by decades of callous policies and underfunding, to ensure Michigan has an education system that well equips our children for the futures they deserve.”
Pugh, of Saginaw, was first elected to the State Board of Education in 2014.
Other board officers also remain the same. Terms are for two years. Officers elected today were:
- Co-vice presidents: Ms. Ellen Cogen Lipton of Huntington Woods and Ms. Tiffany D. Tilley of West Bloomfield.
- Secretary: Dr. Judith Pritchett of Washington Township.
- Treasurer: Mr. Marshall Bullock II of Detroit.
- National Association of State Boards of Education delegate: Dr. Mitchell Robinson of Okemos.
Also at today’s meeting, board members Mr. Tom McMillin of Oakland Township and Ms. Nikki Snyder of Goodrich, who were reelected in November, were ceremonially sworn in for their new eight-year terms.
