Read Michigan eBook Platform Now Available Through Michigan eLibrary

Books of Regional and Michigan Interest Can Be Accessed

LANSING – Michigan residents will benefit from the addition of Read Michigan to the suite of eResources available through the Michigan eLibrary (MeL) at MeL.org

Read Michigan is a collection of regional eBooks—including many about Michigan and/or from Michigan authors—with no wait lists or holds that are available to all state residents or visitors anywhere within the state.

The Library of Michigan, Michigan Humanities, and the presses of University of MichiganMichigan State University, and Wayne  State University developed the platform in 2022. The collection has both fiction and non-fiction titles and includes many past Michigan Notable Books selections, Michigan Field Guides, poetry, and more.

“We are pleased that additional resources are being provided to families across our great state,” said State Superintendent Dr. Michael F. Rice. "This is indeed a big value for Michiganders.”

The Michigan eLibrary is a statewide service that provides access to subscription magazines, newspapers, reference books, eBooks, and more on a wide range of topics for all age groups. The addition of Read Michigan to the Michigan eLibrary brings together mutually beneficial platforms that will both enhance the suite of eResources and draw new users to Read Michigan.

The Library of Michigan recently partnered with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to promote and provide access to a collection of Michigan Field Guides that are on Read Michigan to further enrich the outdoor experiences of visitors at Michigan’s 100-plus state parks. By adding the platform to the Michigan eLibrary, the Library of Michigan hopes to spur other collaboration opportunities that bring free eBook content into classrooms and life-long learning situations.

“We are proud of Read Michigan and its ability to offer instant access to eBooks that reflect a broad spectrum of topics about our state,” said State Librarian Randy Riley. “Adding Read Michigan to the Michigan eLibrary amplifies its visibility, especially to students, teachers, and life-long learners. It also presents additional opportunities for expanding the collection and promoting ReadMichigan.org to more users throughout Michigan.”

The Library of Michigan is an agency within the Michigan Department of Education and is dedicated to providing the people of the state and their government one perpetual institution to collect, preserve and provide access to the story of the state, and to support libraries in their role as essential community anchors.
