East Kentwood Teacher Who Inspires Students to Share Art Featured in Latest #proudMIeducator Video
December 04, 2025
LANSING – The latest #proudMIeducator video features Le Tran, an art educator at East Kentwood High School in Kentwood Public Schools who is known for being able to connect with her students.
Tran, who began teaching art in Kentwood Public Schools in Kent County in 2002, inspires students to create and share their skills with the broader community. She teaches her students about more than just art. She also helps them find their passion, something her teachers did for her when she first moved to the United States. Her teachers were a huge part of her life, especially art teachers who recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue it through high school and college.
“Art is super important,” Tran said in the video that includes a classroom with engaged students. “It is essential.”
That encouragement led to Tran being named the Michigan Art Education Association (MAEA) Secondary Art Educator of the Year in 2021, the 2021 MAEA Art Educator of the Year, and the 2021 National Secondary Art Educator Award named by the National Art Education Association.
“She’s very personable and students connect with her,” said Kim Meyers Baas, Kentwood Public Schools fine arts coordinator.
Since 2016, the #proudMIeducator campaign has featured educators and supporters of Michigan educators who share their passion for education. The full playlist can be found on the #proudMIeducator - YouTube page.
