Michigan's AmeriCorps Member of the Month
Alum Spotlight – October 2025:Teagan Brill, Cherry Health AmeriCorps
Teagan Brill has always been interested in a career in public health and saw AmeriCorps as a great way to gain experience while completing her education. Brill served as an AmeriCorps member with the Cherry Health AmeriCorps program from 2023-2024. Cherry Health AmeriCorps aims to improve health care access for underserved populations to decrease health disparities and close gaps in health care.
Brill graduated from Hope College in 2021 and went on to receive her Master of Public Health from Grand Valley State University. While studying for her Master’s, Brill served as the Communications and Forms Coordinator AmeriCorps member. Her duties included acting as the Editor-In-Chief of the Cherry Health AmeriCorps newsletter, creating materials to increase awareness of cancer screenings to Cherry Health, and ensuring patient-facing forms go through a standardized process for review, monitoring, and compliance. Brill also served as the LeaderCorps representative for her program LeaderCorps is a member-council allowing members to act as a liaison between the Michigan Community Service Commission and their program cohort, while also spearheading group projects, and learning from professional development offerings.
Brill found that her service allowed her to “get out of my comfort zone and grow both personally and professionally.” Brill continues, “During my term of service my empathy, compassion and understanding grew. I worked on a project that helped offer all our forms in three new languages, and while it was challenge, I found myself appreciating the fact I can play a role in someone getting easier access to healthcare services.”
Brill reflects on her service, as a way for her to impart change in the community while also being an avenue to better refine her skills, “AmeriCorps offered me the opportunity to learn and grow, and its been an honor to serve I learned new skills to help me professionally while also learning more about my community.”
After completing her term, Brill was offered a permanent position at Cherry Health where she is the Program Director for the Cherry Health AmeriCorps planning grant for future AmeriCorps programming. In her current role Brill promotes service to others, as well as builds partnerships with community organizations to advance national service in Michigan. Brill continues to believe in the impact of national service stating, “The service AmeriCorps provides is essential to the communities it serves, and I love playing a role in helping make service possible.”
