Grants
The MiSTEM Network collaborated with the Advisory Council Grant Consortia STEM leaders to provide access to resources designed to support
PreK – 12 students, families, teachers, and professional learning facilitators as they navigate educating in the time of COVID-19.
To encourage new and innovative approaches to education using problem-, place- and project-based learning (3-PBL) in Michigan K-12 classrooms, the MiSTEM Network will award $100,000 in grants to capture grantees 3-P story so others can take a similar pathway. Awardees will also review and provide feedback on newly created MiSTEM Playbooks from a user experience perspective.
The MiSTEM Network has created three playbooks grant applicants can currently choose from: Computer Science, Place-Based Education and Community and Everyday Settings. Each playbook utilizes 3-PBL to enhance student engagement, academic achievement, career exploration and community involvement. MiSTEM Playbook Pilot Grants are for consortia that have implemented innovative 3-PBL approaches to learning as a strategy and is achieving school/district improvements.
Funding for the grant was awarded by the Michigan Department of Education to the MiSTEM Network at Grand Valley State University.
A technical assistance webinar has been scheduled to discuss the application and selection process, and to answer questions that potential applicants might have. The presentation is available as a PDF.
Under Section 99s(3) and 99s(4) in the fiscal year 2020 School Aid Act, $3,050,000 is provided to fund grants recommended by the MiSTEM Advisory Council for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs in Michigan. Selected programs have STEMworks certification and can be found in the STEMworks database.
The Michigan Department of Education, on behalf of the MiSTEM Advisory Council, is administering the MiSTEM Advisory Council Grant programs that are recommended for funding. For information see the MISTEM Advisory Council Grant Important Information Document.
