CNCS Gives National Service Champion Award to Michigan Leadership
The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) CEO Wendy Spencer awarded Gov. Rick Snyder and Lt. Gov. Brian Calley a National Service Champion Award recently.
Snyder has been a strong supporter of national service. Snyder helped expand The Urban Safety AmeriCorps program, a national service initiative, which has helped to reduce crime in Detroit by 44 percent. He also created the Do Something campaign, where he encouraged others to volunteer and served alongside Michigan residents.
Calley has also been a strong proponent of National Service. He recently created a video encouraging Michiganders to serve during National Volunteer Week. Calley then went out to service during the Michigan State University Spartan Global Day of Service. He had also committed to regular service in communities across the state.
More than 11,000 people of all ages and backgrounds are helping to meet local needs, strengthen communities, and increase civic engagement through national service in Michigan.
