MCSC supports 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance Projects?
The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) today announced it will award $8,250 for September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance projects.
MCSC within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will fund 10 volunteer projects across Michigan that will address disaster preparedness and support first responders, veterans and military families. The projects will engage nearly 1,500 volunteers in more than 5,000 volunteer hours, benefitting more than 7,000 Michigan residents. All projects will occur in September.
“Volunteerism plays such a crucial role in disaster preparedness,” MCSC Executive Director Ginna Holmes said. “We want to help Michigan communities to prepare for -- and also be ready to respond to and recover from -- natural and man-made disasters.”

The September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance is the culmination of efforts originally launched in 2002 by the nonprofit 9/11 Day with wide support by the 9/11 community and leading national service organizations. This effort first established the inspiring tradition of engaging in charitable service on 9/11 as an annual and forward-looking tribute to the 9/11 victims, survivors, and those who rose up in service in response to the attacks. MCSC is partnering with YSA, Save the Children, CNCS, and 9/11 Day.
