The Rural Development Fund Board, housed in the Office of Rural Prosperity, has oversight of the Rural Development Fund. The Board is charged with advising the Office on how to distribute tax revenue collected from mines to improve and strengthen local communities. Director is a voting member and makes final decision on projects (Public Act 411 of 2012).

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the following appointments to the Michigan Community Service Commission.
Kathleen M. Cain-Babbitt, of Plainwell, is the chief union representative at AFSCME Local 1668 and the labor division chairperson at Greater Kalamazoo United Way. Ms. Cain-Babbitt is appointed to succeed Jerry K. Swartz, representing local labor organizations for a term expiring October 1, 2019.
Peter Spadafore, of Lansing, is a member of the Lansing City Council and the Associate Executive Director of Government Relations for the Michigan Association of School Administrators. Mr. Spadafore is appointed to succeed Kimberley Sims to represent local government for a term expiring October 1, 2021.
Douglas Ferrick, of Northville Township, is the chief development officer for the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation. Mr. Ferrick is appointed to succeed Samasandrapalya Kiran, representing business for a term expiring October 1, 2019.
John Graham, of New Boston, is the manager of the emergency preparedness program for The Auto Club Group, a volunteer reserve police officer for the city of Hamtramck, and a member of the Wayne County Local Planning Committee. Mr. Graham is appointed to represent Native American Tribes for a term expiring October 1, 2020.
Sherry Shrewsbury is appointed as the Governor’s honorary designee representing the First Family of Michigan. As an honorary designee, Ms. Shrewsbury will be a non-voting member of the Commission.
