Michigan Community Service Commission announces Youth for Service Poster Contest winners
The Michigan Community Service Commission is pleased to announce the winners of the Michigan Youth for Service Poster Contest.
The Michigan Youth for Service Poster Contest is a statewide competition that encourages young artists to create a poster that can be used to promote volunteerism.
The Poster Contest is an opportunity for elementary, middle school, and high school students to showcase their artistic talents and inspire Michiganders to make a difference in their communities through volunteerism and service. As the lead state agency for volunteerism, the Michigan Community Service Commission empowers youth to share their voice and be change makers.
This project supports the Commission’s belief that residents of all ages, talents and abilities contribute to community uplift in valuable ways.
“We were excited to see the creativity of all the youth entries,” said Michigan Community Service Commission executive director Ginna Holmes. “The posters will be used to inspire others to serve and help Michigan communities”
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WINNER: Frances Casem, Wiley Elementary, Shelby Township
Frances has a passion for art, and she has been involved with taking art classes that gave her a chance to explore and help other people. Through her poster, Frances hopes to inspire people to volunteer, and remind them that everyone can help the community.
MIDDLE SCHOOL WINNER: Rayah Coomes, Eastside Connections School, Niles
Rayah has volunteered throughout her community, and believes it is important to help keep our world as clean as possible. The Michigan glove in her poster represents Michigan's strength, and the shovel represents volunteering. Rayah hopes to encourage others to volunteer at some point in their lives.
HIGH SCHOOL WINNER: Kendall Sommer, Imlay City High School, Imlay City
Throughout Kendall’s life, she has volunteered at her church, blood drives, a senior citizen center, and international service trips. Her poster portrays the bigger picture of serving. One alone may not make a huge difference, but when a community comes together great things can happen.
