Heritage Works
Heritage Works
The North Corktown Culture Hub will be a mixed-used development located at 3106 16th Street on the three-acre vacant site of the former Owen Elementary, a Detroit Public School. It is the culmination of a decade of arts-based, resident-driven engagement, dedication and partnership led by Heritage Works (HW) that has resulted in a culturally relevant vision of redevelopment of this important place for the neighborhood. This vision is grounded in HW's mission that “promotes youth and community development through cultural traditions, arts and education.”
Heritage Works will share the Culture Hub site with several partners including a Starfish Family Services Early Childhood Center, the North Corktown Neighborhood Association, and Baobab Fare's Soko Market. While providing essential services as well as public green space for the community, the hub will include indoor and outdoor program spaces, office and meeting spaces, and retail/market spaces. HW's Work Arts programming will provide creative workforce development at the intersections of culture, art, and innovation for youth and young adults.
Incorporated in 2000, Heritage Works addresses some of Detroit's toughest challenges through culture and creativity and responds to its community's demands for experiences that inspire joy and understanding. Developing the North Corktown Culture Hub project with HW and the other partners is IFF, working closely with the City of Detroit.
