The charge of the Council is to organize Citizen Corps throughout the state. The Citizen Corps is a component of President George Bush’s USA Freedom Corps, which creates opportunities for individuals to volunteer to help communities prepare for and respond to emergencies. It is an all encompassing effort designed to bring together local leaders, individual volunteers, and the network of first responder organizations such as police departments, fire departments, and emergency medical personnel.
The 12 member MCCC serves as an advisory committee to the MCSC and provides direction on issues related to homeland security and the role volunteers can play in disaster preparedness.
