Get Ready for MiUI: Your Michigan unemployment system transition Downtime Period checklist

Services will be offline the week of Nov. 2 to prepare for launch of MiUI

The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) will launch a new, user-friendly online platform called MiUI on Nov. 9, for workers and employers who use the state’s unemployment system. The transition will require the agency to be temporarily closed for a Downtime Period beginning Nov. 2 until MiUI goes live at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9.

The modern, integrated platform will replace the current Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). The integrated MiUI system will make it easier for workers and employers to complete routine unemployment responsibilities using a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer and features improved accessibility, enhanced user control, and robust anti-fraud capabilities.

Here is a checklist of key Downtime Period information:

  1. When is the Downtime Period: UIA services will be temporarily closed from 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, to 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, ahead of the MiUI launch. The Downtime Period is needed to transfer current and historical data from MiWAM to MiUI. Be aware all UIA and State of Michigan offices will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 3, for Election Day.
  2. Certify before MiWAM goes offline: Complete all MiWAM tasks by 4:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 2, including certifying work searches and availability. Anyone can certify on this day, regardless of assigned day and time.
  3. Didn’t certify on time? Workers can go back and certify for past weeks — including the week MiWAM was unavailable during the Downtime Period — once MiUI is live at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9.
  4. Benefits may be delayed: Those who don't certify before 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, may experience delays receiving benefit payments. The first day to certify in MiUI will be Monday, Nov. 9.
  5. UIA closures: Local Offices as well as Customer Service and Office of Employer Ombudsman phones will be unavailable from 4:30 p.m. Nov. 2 to 8 a.m. Nov. 9. Users will be able to access resources at Michigan.gov/UIA, including a chatbot, factsheets, videos, and FAQs for information about unemployment.
  6. MiWAM and MARVIN discontinued: Once the Downtime Period begins, MiWAM and the MARVIN phone service will be taken permanently offline. MiUI replaces MiWAM and makes it easy to certify online at any time, day or night, instead of calling UIA on an assigned day and at a certain time. Certifying online means users won’t have to wait to speak to a UIA agent. The Customer Service Contact Center will still be available to take calls from the public about their claims after MiUI launches.
  7. Employers face deadline, too: The deadline for employer self-service to initiate their own MiUI account is 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2. A MiUI Activation Code can be found in their master MiWAM account. Employers and third-party administrators have been using MiUI only for tax functions since February 2026. Beginning Nov. 9, they will perform all tax and benefit duties in MiUI.

How to access MiUI after Downtime

To access the new unemployment platform on Monday, Nov. 9, users should go to Michigan.gov/UIA and click on the Login to MiUI link. Then, use your State of Michigan MiLogin if you already have one or create a MiLogin username and password. Access MiUI from the Pure Michigan Talent Connect dashboard. Existing account information can be found in MiUI. Anyone with an existing claim will not have to file a new claim in the new system.

The switch to MiUI will bring some important changes for those who receive benefits. Certifications and benefits payments will be weekly, which is a change from the current biweekly schedule in MiWAM. However, the way workers receive their payments won’t change: Funds will be deposited into designated bank accounts or onto U.S. Bank debit cards. Also, users will no longer be able to file a claim over the phone.
