The Rural Development Fund Board, housed in the Office of Rural Prosperity, has oversight of the Rural Development Fund. The Board is charged with advising the Office on how to distribute tax revenue collected from mines to improve and strengthen local communities. Director is a voting member and makes final decision on projects (Public Act 411 of 2012).

The Opportunity Within the Classroom Conference provides an annual forum for faculty, administration, staff, and postsecondary education supporters to review current research findings; annual retention outcome data; best practice strategies; and specific KCP developed retention strategies positively impacting equality of opportunity and degree achievement of KCP targeted students.
The annual Opportunity Within the Classroom Conference site is provided by a host institution during Spring, generally March or April, each year. Conference information is available each Winter by the host institution and the KCP Initiative State Office. The 2023 Opportunity Within the Classroom virtual conference was hosted by Michigan State University.
