TIA-UI leader Michelle Beebe selected for leadership role in national workforce agency organization

National Association of State Workforce Agencies role will help Michigan efforts

LANSING, MI — Michelle Beebe, senior deputy director of Talent Investment Agency – Unemployment Insurance, has been selected for a leadership role in a national organization that assists workforce agencies across the country.

Beebe was named Unemployment Insurance Committee chairperson for the National Association of State Workforce Agencies. She’s one of nine people selected for leadership posts within the association at a recent gathering.

“Michelle is respected nationwide and has helped TIA-UI focus on making positive changes to strengthen the agency and better serve Michigan residents,” TIA Director Wanda M. Stokes said. “She’s already brought some national resources to help our efforts, and I know that we will benefit from her work with the association.”

NASWA represents workforce agencies in all 50 states and three territories. The agencies oversee Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act programs, employment services, unemployment insurance, employment statistics and labor market and workforce information programming.

“Leading this committee provides an opportunity to draw on best practices, and share lessons with our colleagues on the national stage,” Beebe said. “I’m honored to be selected, and I know that reflects on the talent we have here at TIA-UI.”

Beebe in April was selected by Director Stokes to head Michigan’s unemployment agency after heading Utah’s Unemployment Insurance Division. She has a national reputation for leadership and testified before the U.S. House Ways and Means Subcommittee on challenges and strengths of unemployment programs across the country.
